My Take on the Steelers Opener, the Tyreek Hill Incident, & Tua Concussed Again
In this episode, I’ll give my take on the Steelers season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, the incident involving Tyreek Hill and the Miami Police, and Tua Tagovailoa suffers another concussion in the second half of Thursday night football game against the Buffalo Bills.
The Same Ole Steelers
The Steelers looked like the same old Steelers, the defense saving the day and the kicker Boswell being the offensive player of the game. Boswell nailed six field goals — three of which from beyond 50 yards — while the Steelers defense made life extremely uncomfortable for Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.
With Russell Wilson sidelined due to a calf injury, Justin Fields took the reins and led the Pittsburgh Steelers to an 18-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Steelers’ Rushing Attack Dominates
– The Steelers leaned heavily on their rushing game, attempting 41 runs to 32 pass attempts in the game.
– While they only averaged 3.3 yards per carry, the consistent ground attack helped control the tempo and wear down the Falcons’ defense.
Steelers’ Defense Stifles Falcons’ Offense
– The Steelers’ defense had a strong performance, limiting the Falcons’ offense throughout the game and intercepting 2 of QB Kirk Cousin’s passes
– The Falcons struggled to move the ball and generate points against the Steelers’ stifling defense.
Overall, the Steelers were able to grind out a victory on the road against the Falcons by relying on their rushing attack and stout defensive performance and kicker Boswell’s outstanding leg. As far as, Russell Wilson goes, I do think, once healthy he will get his starting job back. Wilson is a better passer than Fields and at the end of the day, the quarterback position is about passing. Passing is what helps teams score touchdowns, and Fields inability to be an effective passer is why the steelers didn’t score a touchdown last week.
Tyreek Hill Incident:
* Date: Sunday, September 10, 2023
* Location: Miami Gardens, Florida
* Event: Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill was stopped for speeding and reckless driving by Miami-Dade police officers shortly before the team’s season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. – which, by the way, is an arrestable offense
* Detainment: Hill was handcuffed and detained, with video of the incident going viral on social media.
* Police Officer: The officer involved in the incident was identified and placed on administrative leave.
* Public Reaction: The incident sparked a public debate about police use of force and the treatment of high-profile individuals.
* Hill’s Response: Hill expressed his frustration with the situation and called for more accountability from law enforcement.
Who Was at Fault?
Now, I’m not going to get in to fault cause as far as I’m concerned they both had some fault. Tyreek Hill had some entitlement going on and felt that he could say and act anyway he wanted because he’s Tyreek Hill, and the officer lost his temper and let things escalate. What I am going to say is that the ability to drive is a privilege not a right. To obtain your driver’s license, you must take a written test to show that you understand the rule of the road and a driving test to show that you are capable of driving.
Now let’s talk about the rules of the road, you remember the little handbook that you got to study for your written portion of the driver’s license test. The book that you tossed in the garbage as soon as you passed the test. there are specific rules in the “rules of the road” that require citizens to obey law enforcement officers during traffic stops. In Miami, FL, it is required by law to obey lawful orders from law enforcement officers during a traffic stop. According to Florida Statute 316.072, it is unlawful to willfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of a law enforcement officer1. This can result in a second-degree misdemeanor, which may lead to penalties such as up to 60 days in jail, a fine of up to $500, or up to six months of probation.
Tua’s Concussion
– Tua Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins quarterback, suffered a concussion during the second half of Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
— Tagovailoa was hit by Bills defender Damar Hamlin and hit the back of his head on the turf, leading to the concussion.
– This is the third confirmed or suspected concussion Tagovailoa has suffered in his career.
– Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa was in “good spirits” after the concussion, but he was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
– The injury raises further concerns about Tagovailoa’s concussion history and his long-term health, given the multiple head injuries he has sustained this season.
Overall, Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion in the Dolphins’ loss to the Bills is the latest in a series of head injuries for the young quarterback, which has sparked ongoing discussions about player safety in the NFL.
